Some time ago my daughter was asking me to make falafel, normally we have for lunch from one of those falafel places there are. I thought I should give it a go, the falafel itself didn’t work out the way it suppose to be, so no pictures no review, but the pitta bread I made from Paul Hollywood’s book are worth to talk about. You just need some patience and you have great bread to go with anything like souvlaki, in the book you also find the recipe or with falafel, ideal. (more…)

Scones
I think Scones is one of our favorites at home to have with a cup of tea, typical English. Actually we go to the UK almost every year, we need to get some supplies, like English Tea, special flours that are difficult to get in Holland or they are much more expensives, or icing sugar. Then we enjoy going to the tea rooms to have a scone, the best scone ever I had in York, since then I have been searching for a good recipe, combining ingredients and this is my favorite one, still the one in York is winning but I maybe one day I get the secret ingredient. Cheese pie with ham and leek
This is a very simple and delicious pie to make as main course for 4 people or just as a side dish in a party, since you can make in advanced and just warm up when you are going to eat. Also for the filling you can just add whatever you can find at home, other vegetables like onions, paprikas or aubergines and the ham you can leave out or even replace for bacon or chicken, this last one is best if you first bake in olive oil with some salt and pepper. Pancakes from Leon

We use to buy some packages in the international section from our supermarket, but since we discovered this recipe from Leon, no packages anymore! It is not very simple, according to the recipe is only 10 minutes preparation and 5 baking, but that’s not true, takes a bit more. It’s ok because meanwhile you wake up and you will enjoy a fantastic breakfast. (more…)
Apple Pie
Apple Pie or Appeltaart, like we say in Holland, is one of the most traditional Dutch cakes. On the weekends after a walk in the dunes or at the beach, Dutch love to go to a terrace to have “koffie met appelgebak”. Of course not all apple pies are good, we have tried many times at home, even from those packages where you only add a couple of ingredients plus the apples, but still there were a bit disappointing, until I found this recipe in “Het Nederlands Bakboek” and this is heaven, the best home made apple pie ever.
