I have tried many recipes from books or magazines, so making my own combination finally I got the one is perfect for me and for my family. Granola

Granola-3Granola is one of the most populars grains at this moment and if is selfmade is absolutely fantastic. You can have for breakfast or giving extra taste to your ice cream, perfect with milk or yogurt. Has a lot of vitamins but also sugars if you are not very careful. My own granola is a bit of everything and actually never taste the same because I constantly change the ingredients, depending in what I have at home at that moment.  (more…)

Minestrone-6Minestrone soup is a fantastic meal because you can put anything you can find at home, from carrots to peppers, celery, leek, any vegetable is good. If you look in books or websites everybody has a different one, you have them just with stock or like this one with passata. Chicken Tikka Masala

Chicken-Tikka-Masala-9Who doesn’t like Chicken Tikka Masala? I think everybody love it. I have eaten a few times using those ready sauces from the supermarket, they were not great but the taste was almost as the real thing. Finally in Jamie’s Comfort Food it was the perfect recipe, actually one of the less complicated recipes from the whole book, still quite elaborate, but absolutely fantastic in taste. (more…)

Scandi Almond Cookies

Cypriot Lamb Dish

Lamb-casserole-8A couple of weeks ago I decided to make this dish from Annabel Langbein, it was the first time for me to cook pastinak and it was perfect, according to my family maybe too much carrots, but I still think that it was good, I adapted a bit the ingredients and the quantity to make sure we had enough food to be able to eat twice, actually the second time taste even better, all the spices have done their extra work. Pancakes from Leon

Pancakes-8American pancakes are one of our favorites to have for breakfast. We use to buy some packages in the international section from our supermarket, but since we discovered this recipe from Leon, no packages anymore! It is not very simple, according to the recipe is only 10 minutes preparation and 5 baking, but that’s not true, takes a bit more. Apple Pie

Appeltaart-8Apple Pie or Appeltaart, like we say in Holland, is one of the most traditional Dutch cakes. On the weekends after a walk in the dunes or at the beach, Dutch love to go to a terrace to have “koffie met appelgebak”. Of course not all apple pies are good, we have tried many times at home, even from those packages where you only add a couple of ingredients plus the apples, but still there were a bit disappointing, until I found this recipe in “Het Nederlands Bakboek” and this is heaven, the best home made apple pie ever.  (more…)

Lasagna

Lasagne-8Lasagna is one of those meals that I have tried many times, from books, magazines or websites, but somehow never seemed to work the way it should be, always just too moist. Finally after searching and testing I found my own way to get the perfect lasagna, the secret is just to cook the sauce as long as possible, that way the liquids will evaporate and you will get what you are looking for. So this is my recipe, of course you can change the ingredients to your own taste, just remember to make sure the sauce is not too runny. (more…)
