American pancakes are one of our favorites to have for breakfast. We use to buy some packages in the international section from our supermarket, but since we discovered this recipe from Leon, no packages anymore! It is not very simple, according to the recipe is only 10 minutes preparation and 5 baking, but that’s not true, takes a bit more. Apple Pie
Apple Pie or Appeltaart, like we say in Holland, is one of the most traditional Dutch cakes. On the weekends after a walk in the dunes or at the beach, Dutch love to go to a terrace to have “koffie met appelgebak”. Of course not all apple pies are good, we have tried many times at home, even from those packages where you only add a couple of ingredients plus the apples, but still there were a bit disappointing, until I found this recipe in “Het Nederlands Bakboek” and this is heaven, the best home made apple pie ever. Lasagna
Lasagna is one of those meals that I have tried many times, from books, magazines or websites, but somehow never seemed to work the way it should be, always just too moist. Finally after searching and testing I found my own way to get the perfect lasagna, the secret is just to cook the sauce as long as possible, that way the liquids will evaporate and you will get what you are looking for. So this is my recipe, of course you can change the ingredients to your own taste, just remember to make sure the sauce is not too runny. (more…)
Bruschetta Tomato Basil
Bruschetta is one of those breads that you can eat as a starter, side dish or even as appetizer. You can make all the combinations you want, serve with all kind of ingredients. Dutch Ontbijtkoek
Ontbijtkoek is a typical Dutch cake, if you translate means breakfast cookie. Well this one is my daughter’s favourite, normally you buy at the supermarket or the bakery, they are not expensive, but one day checking at the list of ingredients I realised how many unnecessary ones are in there, so I searched in my book “Het Nederlandse Bakboek” and I gave a try, I have made already many times, my daughter doesn’t want the one from the shop anymore, this is so fantastic and without ingredients that we can not even pronounce. Apple Cinnamon Muffins
I love muffins, specially with fruit or chocolate, I decided to make apple cinnamon muffins because I had a couple of apples that were getting a bit old just to eat like that, so a cake is one of the best ideas to avoid throwing away food. Spanish Casserole
After a couple of weeks off, finally life is starting to go to normal and I can get back into my cooking and then of course time to update my website. This Spanish Casserole I learned years ago from my mum, but every time I make is surprisingly delicious, I forget that something so simple and easy to make is just fantastic.
